TKJTKJ Web Host

Moving your site to us

Migration is the reason most people stay on hosting they have gone off. Here is how we approach it, so you know what you would be taking on before you commit to anything.

Talk to us about a move

How it works

Four steps, no drama

  1. 1

    Tell us where it lives

Your domain, your current host, and whether your email is there too. If you are not sure, send us what you have and we will work it out.

  2. 2

    We scope it honestly

We look at what is actually involved and tell you before anything starts — including if it is more complicated than you expected, or if you are better off staying put.

  3. 3

    Copy first, test second

Files, database, mailboxes. We build a working copy and test it on a temporary address while your live site carries on untouched. You get the preview link and check it yourself.

  4. 4

    You choose the cutover

Nothing changes publicly until you say go. We lower the DNS TTL beforehand and switch at a time that suits you.

Migration questions

What does a migration cost?

It depends on what is being moved, so we quote it before we start rather than after. A single small site is a different job from a mailbox estate or an application that needs re-engineering, and we would rather say so up front.

Will my site go down?

The aim is that it does not, and building and testing the copy before changing anything is what makes that possible. But DNS propagation is not something any host fully controls, and email is the fiddly part — which is why we plan the cutover with you rather than springing it on you.

How long does it take?

That depends on the site. We will give you a realistic estimate once we have seen what is involved, and tell you if it slips.

What do you need from me?

Access to your current hosting control panel and to wherever your domain's DNS is managed. If you have lost those, we can usually help you work out how to recover them.
